No. 2 Duke lacrosse earns multiple ACC honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The second-ranked Duke Blue Devils landed four players on the 2014 All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Lacrosse Team as announced on Wednesday.

Midfielders Deemer Class, Myles Jones, Brendan Fowler and attackman Jordan Wolf all received recognition from the league’s six coaches for their play this season.

Earlier in the week, Wolf was also named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, and currently leads the ACC in goals (46) and points (67).

Wolf matched a career high with six goals and eight points overall to lead Duke to a 17-8 win over Rutgers last Saturday, and extended his point streak to 55 games along with his goal scoring streak to 16 games as Duke finished the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record at home.

The Blue Devils are 12-2 overall, 4-1 in the ACC, and are riding an eight-game win streak to sit seeded second in the upcoming conference tournament in which they will face the No. 3 seed Syracuse Orange in the first semifinal to be played at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. on Friday.

While the top-seeded Maryland Terrapins led all teams with five selections, Duke, along with the North Carolina Tar Heels each had four players represented on the 19-person team.

Fowler and Wolf both earned repeat honors for the Blue Devils with Wolf garnering All-ACC accolades for the fourth straight season.

Class and Jones were two of four sophomores picked in the conference, joining Notre Dame’s Matt Kavanagh and the Orange’s Brandon Mullins.

Class currently sits second in team scoring with 27 goals and 25 assists (52 points), while ranking 22nd nationally in points per game, and fourth overall among all midfielders.

Jones, also garnering his first All-ACC recognition, is having an equally outstanding season as a part of Duke’s first midfield line.

As physical presence for the Blue Devils, he has posted 37 points (25 goals, 12 assists) while starting all 14 games this season.

In posting three hat tricks, Jones most recently also dished out a career-high five assists in the win over Rutgers.

The 2013 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Fowler has once again led the Blue Devils at the faceoff X, currently sitting with a .611 win percentage, winning 206-of-339 draws to rank 12th nationally.

Fowler has won at least 50 percent of his faceoffs in 12 of 14 games and has picked up 10-plus ground balls in six games.

The NCAA record-holder for faceoff victories in a season, Fowler currently ranks tied for sixth all-time in NCAA history (722 FO wins) and is second among active players in ground balls with 414.
