HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – The Holly Springs Salamanders assumed second place in the Coastal Plain League (CPL) East standings with an 8-5 win over the Fayetteville SwampDogs in front of a standing-room only crowd of 2,211 at the North Main Athletic Complex on Friday.
In front of their largest home crowd of the season, the Salamanders (15-10, 27-26) rallied back from a four-run deficit and stayed in contention for a spot in the upcoming Petitt Cup playoffs.
Brett Daniels (3-4, 2 1/3 IP, 2 H, 3 SO) earned the win while Wayne Wages posted his third save of the season.
Holly Springs home run leader Collin Woody (3-3, 2 R) had a big night, launching his 10th long ball of the season in the seventh inning as part of a five-RBI performance that helped power the Salamanders’ comeback.
Logan Porter (2-4, 1 R), Joey Roach (2-5, 2 R), and Zach Cerbo (1-4) all drove in runs to support the effort.
With Fayetteville (6-18, 18-33) leading 5-1 through five innings, the Salamanders brought in two runs in the sixth inning with Woody’s double to center that cut their deficit to two runs.
Holly Springs then put together a five-run output in the seventh, and coupled with Wages’ work in the final two innings, finalized the win.
Currently sporting seven wins in their last 10 games played, the Salamanders have three games left to play in the regular-season that ends with a matchup against High Point-Thomasville at the NMAC on Monday.
