EDENTON, N.C. – The Holly Springs Salamanders put up a valiant fight in their first-ever Coastal Plain League (CPL) Petitt Cup playoff series, but ended their season following a 7-0 loss to the Edenton Steamers at Historic Hicks Field on Saturday.

After losing 4-2 in the first game of the best-of-three series on Wednesday at the North Main Athletic Complex, Holly Springs (1-2, 29-30) had to wait two days before continuing the series at Edenton due to weather and field condition issues.

The time delay worked to the Salamanders’ favor, helping them earn a 4-2 win in Game Two which was part of a double header the teams played to conclude the series.

Unfortunately for Holly Springs, the Steamers (2-1, 42-16) put together a six-run first inning that was the significant knockout punch that allowed them to complete the shutout win that moved them on to the CPL East Division final series.
