RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Sunday that the team had recalled forward Lucas Wallmark from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

The call-up marked the first in the NHL for Wallmark, 21, who leads the Checkers with 21 goals this season, ranks second on the team with 39 points and leads all team forwards with a plus-7 plus-minus rating.

The Swedish forward is in his first North American pro season after playing the last three primarily with Lulea of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).

The Hurricanes drafted the six-foot, 176-pound Wallmark in the fourth round, 97th overall, in the 2014 NHL Draft.

He has represented Sweden at eight international tournaments, including the 2014 and 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championships.

Wallmark will join Carolina for its game against the New York Islanders at Barclays Center on Monday in Brooklyn, N.Y.
