RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Monday that the team had recalled goaltender Michael Leighton from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Leighton was recalled on an emergency basis after goaltender Eddie Lack suffered a concussion at practice on Monday.

The 15-year veteran signed as a free agent with the Hurricanes on Sept. 7, 2016, his second tour of duty with the organization.

The 35-year old ranks fourth among AHL goaltenders this season with a 1.66 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage.

He also ranks tied for seventh in the AHL with six wins, and has posted a 6-2-1 record in 10 appearances this season.

Chicago’s sixth round (165th overall) pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Leighton has compiled a 35-41-4 record, a 2.96 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage in 106 career NHL regular-season games with Chicago, Nashville, Philadelphia and Carolina.
