RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes roster now sits at 32 players as they head into their final preseason game against the Washington Capitals at PNC Arena on Friday.

The team’s current training camp roster was cut down by 14 players on Thursday.

Carolina assigned Jake Bean (Calgary, WHL) and Julien Gauthier (Val d’Or, QMJHL) to their respective junior teams, and Aleksi Saarela to Lukko of Liiga of the Finnish Elite League.

Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic, defensemen Dennis Robertson and Jake Chelios and forwards Andrew Poturalski and Valentin Zykov were assigned to Carolina’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.

Forward Raffi Torres was released from his PTO, while Brendan Woods, Brody Sutter, Keegan Lowe, Matt Tennyson and Michael Leighton were assigned to Charlotte after clearing waivers.

Following a 3-2 shootout win over the Buffalo Sabres in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on Wednesday, the team prepped for its final home game preceding a six-game road trip to begin the NHL regular season next Thursday (Oct. 13) in Winnipeg.

“It’s coming together,” head coach Bill Peters said.

“The guys are excited about playing in front of our fans against Washington and then starting the regular season.”
