DURHAM, N.C. – For Duke Blue Devils fans, golf fans specifically, there will be three former golf team members to follow at next week’s U.S. Open to be played on the famed No.2 course at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club.

Joe Ogilvie and Ryan Blaum both made it through sectional qualifying on Monday and joined another former Blue Devils linkster, Kevin Streelman, who already had exempt status in the field of 156 players that took better shape by the end of the day.

Ogilvie finished T3 with an 8-under par finish at Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tenn., carding rounds of 66 and 69 (135) while Blaum finished T14 at 2-under par at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio, posting a 69 and 71 (140) and needed to earn a spot by playing in a five-for-three playoff.

According to USGA social media reports, Blaum drained a 30-foot putt in the playoff to get into the field.

Other players whom local fans are familiar with didn’t fare as well and didn’t make the field.

Jason Gore (T15 – 74-67-141) finished four strokes off the pace in Daly City, Ca. while two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen (T7 – 71-72-143) was two strokes short in getting a spot out of the Purchase N.Y. qualifier.

Both had played in the recent Rex Hospital Open and had intentions to make another trip to Pinehurst, but unfortunately fell short.

Former Rex champions Chesson Hadley (T65-75-72-147), James Hahn (T19-72-69-141), Kyle Thompson (T23-76-71-147) , and Scott Gutschewski (7th – 68-71-139) missed the cut at their respective qualifier sites, as did other players with local ties including Davis Love III (T56-76-70-146), Tim Clark (T25-72-67-139), Brad Fritsch (T17-72-66-138), David Mathis (T119-WD), and amateur Carter Jenkins (T9 – 72-76-148).
