CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina Tar Heels goalkeeper Megan Ward was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week as announced on Tuesday by the conference.

Ward came off the bench and backstopped the latter half of the Tar Heels’ 17-15 win over No. 2 Maryland on Saturday, a rematch of the 2013 NCAA Championship game.

Ward entered the game at the 11:15 mark of the first half in relief of starter Caylee Waters with the Terrapins leading, 8-4.

Ward played the rest of the game and tied her season high with nine saves, holding Maryland scoreless for a span of 15:32 while the Tar Heels put together an early second-half 7-1 run to seize control of the game to eventually earn the victory.
