CARY, N.C. Ty Shipalane made the difference and helped the Carolina RailHawks post a 1-0 victory over Ottawa Fury FC in front of a crowd of 4,208 at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday.

The South African midfielder scored the game-winning goal in the 47th minute and extended the RailHawks’ win streak to three games.

It was Shipalane’s second goal of the season on a set-up from captain Nazmi Albadawi.

Ottawa goalkeeper Romuald Peiser, the reigning NASL goalkeeper of the year, finished with six saves, but couldn’t stop Shipalane’s shot attempt.

“Their goalkeeper made it tough,” Shipalane said.

“I knew I had to find a spot and hit it. But I give all of the credit to my teammates for working hard the entire game.”

At the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald made three saves and earned his first shutout of the season as the RailHawks assumed sole possession of first place in the NASL table, sitting at 3-0-0 with nine points.
