RALEIGH, N.C. – Noah Hanifin will represent the Carolina Hurricanes and the Metropolitan Division at the 2018 NHL All-Star Weekend that will take place Jan. 27-28 in Tampa, Fla.

The selection, announced on Wednesday, is Hanifin’s first of his career and comes during a season in which he has posted 21 points (7g, 14a) in 42 games.

The 20-year-old native of Boston, Mass. leads Hurricanes defensemen in all three offensive scoring categories, including netting two game-winning goals, and ranks eighth among NHL blueliners in goals (7) scored.

Selected by the Hurricanes in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Hanifin is in his third NHL season and has totaled 15 goals and 57 assists (72 points) in 202 career games played for Carolina.

NHL All-Star Game details

For the third straight season, the All-Star Game will feature a three-game tournament, played in a 3-on-3 format, showcasing teams from each NHL division competing for a $1 million winner-take-all prize pool.

Forty players were selected by the NHL, joining the four division captains elected by fans via the 2018 NHL All-Star Fan Vote: Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning (Atlantic), Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals (Metropolitan), P.K. Subban of the Nashville Predators (Central) and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers (Pacific).

The rosters for each division team are comprised of six forwards, three defensemen and two goaltenders.
