EUGENE, ORE. – The Duke Blue Devils moved up the leaderboard through 36 holes played in the 2016 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship tournament played at Eugene Country Club on Saturday.

NCAA Championship: Leaderboard

Duke carded a five-under-par, 283 and moved up 12 spots as Virginia Elena Carta (68), Leona Maguire (70) and Sandy Choi (71) led the way in red numbers for the Blue Devils.

“That sort of play today just comes down to believing and knowing who you are,” Duke head coach Dan Brooks said.

“I was proud that they didn’t try to do anything special today to come back. You just go play your golf.  If you are good, that will show up.”

Duke made the biggest jump following the second round of play, sitting with a team total of 582 – 13 shots back of the lead.

First place Southern California carded an eight-under 280 to take the team lead at 569 while Washington (574), UCLA (577), Stanford (578), Oklahoma State (579), Oregon (579), Arizona (580), Northwestern (581), South Carolina (582), Tennessee (582), Duke (582), Arkansas (583), Florida State (585), Ohio State (586) and Virginia (587) rounded out the top 15 teams.

Following Sunday’s third round, the field will be cut to the top 15 for Monday’s final day of stroke play.
