RALEIGH, N.C. – Jack Maguire was the first to race up the leaderboard at the 2016 Rex Hospital Open during the third round of play on at TPC Wakefield Plantation on Saturday.

Leaderboard: Round 3

It was indeed moving day for Maguire who posted an eight-under 63 on a fresh course as he and playing partner Anthony Broussard were only the second and third players out following Cary’s Ben Kohles.

Broussard and Kohles didn’t fare as well, carding a two-over par 73 and seven-over par 78, respectively.

After making the cut on Friday and sitting at even par, Maguire, who played at Florida State , vaulted himself into second place behind 36-hole co-leaders J.J. Spaun and Brady Schnell, who started their third rounds at 1:00 p.m. sitting at -9.

“It was all about hitting greens today,” Maguire said.

“I only missed two greens and got up and down both times. I just avoided mistakes and the putts started to fall. Being the second group off behind a onesome was a nice way to keep the momentum going also.”

As the rest of the field continued to tee off, word was that Maguire didn’t stick around long and left the course to take in a relaxing afternoon of catching the sights around the city.

It’s a sure bet that he’d be checking in on where his finish would land him by the end of the day and headed into the final round on Sunday.
