GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Tar Heels forward Janelle Bailey was voted ACC Rookie of the Week as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) on Monday.
Bailey recently posted 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 90-78 win over the Pac 12 Conference’s Washington Huskies at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Sunday.
It was the third weekly honor she received this season as selected by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
The freshman, recently named as the 2017 USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year, has made a significant impact in the post for the Tar Heels who currently sit with a 9-2 record led by head coach Sylvia Hatchell.
Having started all 11 games, Bailey is currently averaging 15 points and eight rebounds per game to go along with 15 blocks and four steals overall.
Riding a seven-game win streak, Bailey and the Tar Heels tip off against Grambling State on Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C., looking to post another win and advance their Hall of Fame coach up onto the 1000 career-wins plateau.
