Blue Devils forward Peters named Senior CLASS Award All-America

DURHAM, N.C. – The Senior CLASS Award selections for 2013-14 All-America teams were made with Duke Blue Devils women’s basketball forward Haley Peters earning Second Team accolades as announced on Friday.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Peters averaged 11.2 points per game and tied for a team-best 7.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals in 31 games played.

She added Senior Class Award recognition with other accolades she received this year including All-ACC Tournament second team, Capital One Academic All-America, and All-ACC Academic Team honors.

The 6 foot-3-inch senior ended her career with 826 rebounds over her four years, ranking sixth all-time, while also posting 1,367 points to stand 16th overall in the Blue Devil record books.

The Senior Class Award First Team consisted of Heather Butler (Tennessee-Martin), Hallie Christofferson (Iowa State), Stefanie Dolson (UConn), Jordan Hooper (Nebraska) and Chiney Ogwumike (Stanford), while Peters was joined by  Jerica Coley (FIU), Natasha Howard (Florida State), Maggie Lucas (Penn State) and Odyssey Sims (Baylor) on the Second Team.

As part of a Duke team that posted a 28-7 overall record, Peters was a leader in helping the squad to advance to the NCAA Tournament second round before falling to seventh-seeded DePaul.
