RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes announced the re-signing of goaltender Drew MacIntyre on Friday.
MacIntyre originally signed with Carolina as a free agent on July 1, 2014, and went on to post a 20-26-5 record, a 2.84 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage in 51 games played last season with the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate club, the Charlotte Checkers.
The 51 games played, 2,936 minutes played and 1,474 saves he made in 2014-15 were all single-season records for a goaltender in Checkers history.
He served as a backup for Carolina in one game last season against Washington on Dec. 4, but did not see NHL live game action in 2014-15.
Detroit’s second selection, 121st overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, MacIntyre has played six career NHL games with Vancouver, Buffalo and Toronto, registering a 2.41 goals-against average and .912 save percentage.
He has appeared in 404 career AHL games, posting a 212-143-26 record with a 2.47 goals-against average, and was named to the AHL’s Second All-Star Team in 2008-09 and 2007-08.
MacIntyre earned his 200th AHL win on Dec. 13 with Charlotte last season, and his 212 career AHL wins ranks him ninth in league history.
