CARY, N.C. – The Carolina RailHawks advanced to the next round of play in the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with a 2-0 win over the Charlotte Eagles 2-0 at WakeMed Soccer Park on Wednesday.

Goals from Nazmi Albadawi and Jun Marques Davidson extended the RailHawks’ unbeaten streak at home to 20 games and vaulted Carolina into fourth-round play to host Major League Soccer’s Chivas USA on June 14th.

“We are delighted with the result,” RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke said.

“It was a tough night with the humidity, but we played well and we advance to the next round.  Charlotte is a very good team and made it difficult for us. We are pleased to add the shutout.”

Albadawi’s marker was his first scored professionally and with Davidson’s insurance tally goalkeeper Scott Goodwin earned his first shutout and win on the season for the RailHawks.

The match also allowed Carolina defender Kupono Low to add to his all-time club record by recording his 200th appearance for the RailHawks since making his debut on April 21, 2007.

Carolina will now use the momentum of its U.S. Open Cup win over Charlotte to further extend its unbeaten streak at WakeMed when it kicks off against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday.
