RALEIGH, N.C.Many of North Carolina’s top collegiate and high school golfers will compete in Sunday’s Rex Hospital Open Junior Invitational at TPC at Wakefield Plantation for a chance to play in the upcoming 2014 Rex Hospital Open.

The field features many talented young golfers including two-time winner and Raleigh native Grayson Murray.

A winner in each of the collegiate and elite junior divisions of the tournament will earn the opportunity to compete in the Web.com PGA Tour event that will be played at the TPC course from May 22-25.

Murray, who attends and plays for Arizona State University, played his high school golf at Leesville Road High School, and currently sits 13th and 23rd in the Golfweek U.S. and World Amateur player rankings respectively.

Most recently, Murray qualified and competed in the 2013 U.S. Open, while previously winning the Rex Hospital Open Junior Invitational title in 2010 and 2012.

After qualifying to compete in the Rex Hospital Open in 2010, he went on to become the second-youngest golfer to make the cut at a PGA Tour event when he carded a 73 and 66 to eventually finish T55 (-2) in the rain-shortened event.

Carter Jenkins, also of Raleigh and a former teammate of Murray’s at Leesville Road, won the Invitational last year and in 2011, but will not compete in this year’s event as he will be leading the UNC-Greensboro golf team into its first-ever appearance at this weekend’s NCAA Regional Tournament in Auburn, Ala.
