TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – Senior placekicker Nick Weiler booted a career-long 54-yard field goal and gave the North Carolina Tar Heels a dramatic 37-35 win over the No. 12 Florida State Seminoles at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday.

The Tar Heels improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in ACC play, and followed up a seconds-ending win over Pitt last week with an equally impressive finish.

The win snapped Florida State’s 22-game home win streak, which was the nation’s longest, and gave North Carolina only its third-ever win over Florida State in the two teams’ all-time series.

Tar Heels quarterback Mitch Trubisky completed 31-of-38 pass attempts for 405 yards and three touchdowns.

Wide receiver Ryan Switzer made 14 catches – pushing a two-game total to 30 – an ACC record for most receptions in back-to-back games.

Tailback T.J. Logan had a 22-yard touchdown catch and scored on a 13-yard touchdown run in the second quarter while receiver Mack Hollins recorded his 20th career touchdown reception on a 15-yard pass from Trubisky.

With the score tied, Thomas Jackson, a walk-on who earned a scholarship during training camp, scored on a 34-yard catch-and-run late in the fourth quarter and gave North Carolina a 34-28 lead.

Weiler’s PAT was blocked and allowed Florida State to take a one-point lead, 35-34, before he got the opportunity to win the game for the Tar Heels with the longest kick of his career to date.
