DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke Blue Devils faced one of their oldest gridiron rivals at Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday.
Kicking off against the Virginia Cavaliers for the 68th time, part of an all-time series dating back to 1890, the Blue Devils eventually came up on the losing end as a result of numerous turnovers and suffered a 34-20 loss.
After leading the Blue Devils to a historic 38-35 win over Notre Dame in South Bend last week, redshirt freshman quarterback Daniel Jones wasn’t able to do the same against the Cavaliers.

While coming into the game leading all freshman nationally in completions, passing yards, and total offensive yards, Jones completed 33-of-54 pass attempts for 324 yards and one touchdown against Virginia.
T.J. Rahming’s 23-yard touchdown catch put the Blue Devils ahead 7-0, but by halftime, Duke trailed UVA 20-10.
The Blue Devils looked to put themselves in position to pull even after Joe Ajeigbe’s four-yard touchdown run cut the deficit to 27-20 with 11:34 to play.
However, Jones throwing five interceptions and getting sacked twice by the Cavaliers defense, including a fumble in the end zone late in the game, denied the Blue Devils the opportunity to complete their comeback attempt.
